01.01.2011
The end of 2010 finally marks the beginning of 2011. With that, it also marks the end of my birthday:
a) my parents wedding date was on 31/12/1984. I only got to knew that my birthday coincides with their wedding anniversary few years back. Talk about coincidence. Thanks to my parents for bringing me into this world.
b) I knew of 3 more friends who have the same birthday as me: Pan, Fareeza and Li May. Now I don’t feel very special anymore. Haha…
>>It was a pleasant birthday for 2010, though it didn’t involve any countdown. In fact the countdown last year was a bit tiring for us as we were rushing after work and it was super duper jammed in Auto City since that’s the only place for countdown in mainland Penang. For 2010, I had 3 times of cake eating session (all being pre-birthday celebration). No cake eating on the actual day for 2010:
a) 291210 - the earliest and most unexpected one, by Yeoh and Law, thanks to WY. I was being conned into a dinner in Station One, Raja Uda when all along I thought it was to discuss about my looming Mount Kinabalu climb scheduled in June 2011. After my badminton session (lucky I changed into decent sports wear after all the sweats) I went there not suspecting anything. Somehow the surprise came when…
Yeoh: Full already? Can eat some more?
Me: What u guys wanna eat?
Yeoh: Law, bring it up.
And 2 slices of cheese cakes from Secret Recipe were placed on the table. I was dumbfounded and I don’t remember giving any response, simply staring at them. I never expect newly-met friends to do that for me (thanks to WY’s arrangement, really) and they even sang birthday song for me. It was a light moment and full of laughters throughout the dinner as the 3 of us were a bunch of crazy people and they loved to crack jokes. Until I don’t know when were they serious and when they were not.
b) 301210 - Malaysian government was kind enough to grant us a public holiday on 311210 (in conjunction with my birthday, nah… it was due to the victory of Malaysia’s soccer team against the Indonesian team after being gold-less for 14 years) and so my fellow subordinates arranged for a birthday celebration for me. It was a norm in our Lab to celebrate this occassion.
It was finally my turn. Had KFC and Domino pizza and I had never eaten a birthday cake that big and with ice cream in the middle layer too. We ate till our stomach burst out (exaggeration of course). It was a sweet moment as we managed to sit down and crack some stupid jokes together. Mind you, I am quite serious when at work, especially when I am busy (I won’t bother to stir up much conversation).
c) And due to the public holiday on 311210, WY had to cancel the countdown plan with me, BH, YY and God (his nickname, I don’t know his real name) as she wanted to “balik kampung”. Instead, WY drove to Kulim, put up a night at my place and she bought 2 slices of Secret Recipe cheese cake and Pecan Butterscotch cake. We had a good chat, until I dozed off while chatting with her. AL and SH called. Just imagine this: AL, SH, WY and me on the phone with each other (using loudspeaker of course). If MF, PT and CP could join us, it would be perfect!
>> Went for blood test at BP Diagnostic Centre in BM with mom. First time checking for myself and second time for mom (but her first time was with Pathlab). Went to BP as I got a discount voucher from Lonepac Insurance for my car. I am 172cm, 1cm shorter than before and 58kg, 3kg more than before. Gosh, never knew I will be shorter and fatter at such a young age. Still, the Medical Lab Technologist (I actually took the trouble to ask her what’s her title) told me that my BMI is slightly low, at 19.5.
Weird. I remember back in school that the normal BMI range for female is minimum 18. But she told me that for my age the minimum score is 20. Chew, just slightly low only ma, no need to ask me: “Are u choosy when it comes to meal?” Made me feel like I am a kid pulak. So I just answered: “No ah, I eat everything, like a dinosaur at home. Don’t believe can ask my mom.” She just smiled.
My blood pressure was surprisingly low, reading 104/64 and pulse was 64. But she was using the rapid blood pressure monitor where u can easily find one at home. And I always knew that mine was reading quite low as it was always the case when I check my blood pressure at home last time. The weird thing is I can always donate blood and doctor never say anything. Perhaps blood pressure doesn’t really have anything to do with blood donation as long as your body weight exceeds 45kg for female, or as long as the blood pressure is not extremely low.
She asked: “Do you feel dizzy?” Perhaps the blood pressure was low because I didn’t eat breakfast? I also don’t know why. I really don’t feel dizzy. Last time yes, but now no more. And I just knew that for people who exercise regularly, pulse of 60-70 is normal. I thought mine was a bit low as I thought all this while that the normal range is 70-80. So got to wait for the next Sunday to get my report… Pray hard mine is not too bad.
>> Was bombarded with SMSes and several phone calls. I made it a point to reply all the well wishes personally, as it was my way of showing courtesy. It feels good that people still took the effort to wish others despite being less in touch with each other nowadays. It might not mean anything to them, but it makes me feel warmer…
>> Watched Tron: The Legacy with JS. I liked the movie, especially the game part. Had late lunch cum tea with JS at Swenz, across Sunway Carnival. Little did I know that we should have brought an umbrella along as it rained heavily after a shortwhile. We did brace through the rain to get back into Sunway.
Wet but somehow I enjoyed it. I haven’t been soaked for quite some time now. Told ya I am weird! It was a fun outing with JS as we exchanged some views on several issues. So jealous, he got to go to US to work for 2 months. If I had the privilege to work oversea too, I will definitely try to explore the places there, at the expense of the company (flight and lodging).
>> Rushed to meet PS and SH in Teluk Kumbar. I had to apologize to them as they were waiting for me for quite some time. Couldn’t help it. It was a long queue before the Penang bridge toll and an even longer queue at the traffic light turning to War Museum. By the time I reached there, both of them were practically starving so we quickly went to Hao You Seafood Restaurant and sat by the beachside. Nice view and the silhouttes against the backdrop of the sunset…beyond words!
Food was OK. Fooled around in the room for awhile before SH said go to have supper. I shared roti telur bawang with PS and didn’t manage to take my usual favorite nasi lemak. The seafood was simply too filling for me at that moment.
Next stop, 7 Eleven. We bought 3 cans of Shandy plus some snacks, snapped photos there and went back to PS’s house. Crapped there and had our own countdown in the room. This SH, I tell you, simply couldn’t stop taking photos. She had a great potential to be a paparazzi. Don’t know how many innocent and candid photos she took of us. But the final ending is the best one.
SH posted something like “Pheo beside me, cutting hexagons. Counting hexagons for countdown, 1 hexagon…2 hexagons… 3 hexagons…” SH and her sense of humour. I like her. Btw, we actually helped PS with her patchwork hexagons earlier on.
Overall, it was a good way to end my 2010
